Success Story

Monica Wanjiru Kamau

Project: Business Training, 2004

Empowering the entire family

In 1992, Monica had to flee form war to Kiambu. To be able to feed her six children, she worked with her husband on different farms. After she completed the business training at Kianda in 2004, she started a pig farm with the support of her husband and the financial support of her daughter Peris, who had also attended a training at Kianda. After the pig farm she changed to a chicken farm. During the training she learnt how to run her business in a profitable way. Due to selling eggs and meat she can now pay for her children’s education. Monica is very proud of her success and values her independence, because she can work from home and therefore also has time for her children and grandchildren.
